Thanks to the continued solid play of the back - including Caitlin Peters, Hanna LaRochelle, Mackenzie Miller and Sarah Viehl - the Salem girls soccer team defeated Manchester Memorial 2-0 to advance to the Class L semifinals. Liz Edgerton netted the game's first goal on an assist from Peters, and Kayla Provenzano put an insurance tally away in the second half on a nice corner kick that she bent in.
"Overall, this is just an impressive team. Making the final four is always very impressive," said coach Kendrick Whittle. "The back line has been awesome. We have a big test in front of us, going up against an undefeated Merrimack team next round."
In net, Sarah Snyder, who hasn't allowed a goal through the first two rounds of the postseason, stopped all six shots put on her.
Goals: S — Liz Edgerton, Kayla Provenzano
Assists: S — Caitlin Peters
Saves: S — Sarah Snyder 6; MM — Ashley Gendron 8
