Shea leads Knights

North Andover placed sixth and Andover seventh at the State Team Gymanstics Championships at the DCU Center. The top four teams from the North and South sectionals qualified. Madeleine Shea came up big for the Knights. She had a strong performance in the all-around, stepping in for Nicole Stevens, who was limited to three events by an ankle injury. Julia Montecalvo nailed her new bar routine. Jessica Whitehead had a well executed tuck tsuk on the vault.

Despite the efforts of all-around winner Nicole Stevens of North Andover, Andover won a thriller in gymnastics, 141.9-141.3, with Jessie Livingstion and Courtney Carver taking second and third in the final event, the beam, to secure the victory.

Nicole Stevens set a school record in the floor exercise with a 9.8, breaking the mark she tied last week, and also had a career-high score of 38.0 as North Andover beat Lowell 138.75-135.55.

Andover's gymnastics teram took the top three places in every event on its way to a season-high score in a 143.6-131.3 victory over Acton-Boxboro. Courtney Carver (37.15) and Jessie Livingston were one-two in the all-around for the unbeaten Warriors (7-0).

Andover's girls gymnastics team remained unbeaten and had a season high score in a 143.4-131.75 victory over Lowell. Also, Courtney Carver (37.5) and Jessie Livingston (37.25) had season-best scores in the all-around while Carver had a 9.6 season-best score in the balance beam.

Junior Kaylee Pacunas, who last year competed on a club team, was the star as Pinkerton defeated Londonderry 134.1-125.3. She won the all-around at 34.85, edging out Astro sophomore Amanda Cioli, who had a 34.35.
