The Andover girls hockey team fell to Lexington 3-0 in the first round of the Division 1 state tournament.

It's all defense for Andover

Andover's girls hockey team was frustrated a bit by a trapping defense, but the Golden Warriors had more than enough of their own defense to blank Newton North 2-0 in the first round of the Division 1 tournament. Megan Pettoruto only needed four saves to pick up her 10th shutout. Sarah Oteri and Nicole Giroux scored the goals and Alicia Nader and Lea Macheras played well early.

Brooks' top unit of Jackie Kelleher (two goals, two assists), Andover's Marina Moschitto (two goals) and Christie Donovan (goal, assist) were unstoppable, combining for eight points in the Green and White's 6-3 win over St. George's. Brooks had been trailing 2-0 after the first period but went on a 6-1 run to earn the win.

Powered by Sarah Oteri's hat-trick, the Andover girls hockey team reached 100 program wins with a 6-0 victory over Cathedral. Oteri finished with 4 points while adding an assist to her three goals while Nicole Giroux notched two goals and an assist as well. Goaltender Megan Pettoruto stopped 24 shots en route to her eighth shutout of the season.

Forced to play with just 11 skaters due to injuries, Phillips wouldn't surrender. Katie Riley's goal with 3:12 left in the game gave the Big Blue a 2-1 win over archrival Phillips Exeter. Avery Stone tied the game early in the third for Andover.

Alissa Fromkin made it five shutouts on the year, turning away 41 Deerfield shots in a 2-0 Phillips Academy victory.

Andover crushed Everett, 7-2, behind a big 4-point effort from Sarah Oteri. Oteri netted 2 goals and 2 assists, and Heather Paonessa (2 goals, 1 assist) and Laura Drew (1 goal, 2 assists) chipped in with 3 points of their own. Megan Pettoruto turned aside 16 shots, as well.

Laura Drew netted two goals as the Andover girls hockey team topped Beverly, 3-1. Katie Shields rounded out the scoring with the Warriors' third goal, and Sarah Oteri recorded a pair of helpers. Megan Pettoruto turned aside eight shots to help Andover (7-2-1) secure its seventh win of the season.

Magnificent Megan

The Golden Warriors girls ice hockey team improved to 4-1 thanks to the continued strong play of goaltender Megan Pettoruto, who blanked Everett and finished with 13 saves. Pettoruto now has four shutouts on the year, all of which coming in Andover's past four games. Interestingly, the senior netminder has faced exactly 13 shots in each of the past three games.
