Andover girls advance

Depsite being pushed to the limit by Haverhill, Andover was able to come away with a 3-2 victory in yesterday's girls tennis Division 1 North first round. Maggie Carter (third singles) and the first doubles team of Rachel Trotta and Kirsten Arvidson both registered perfect 6-0, 6-0 victories. Arvidson filled in admirably for Satin Zarkar, who is likely lost for the postseason with rotator cuff damage. Haverhill's Meghan Cokely and Lindsey Boland gritted out a pair of three-game victories out of first and second singles respectively to help keep the Hillies alive.

Pinkerton dropped its first place showdown match with Manchester Central, but Maggie Preece put the finishing touches on a perfect season (14-0) at No. 6 singles - winning by an 8-2 margin.  Gasey Gillman had the other win for the 12-2 Astros.

Haverhill smashed Notre Dame

In her last home match senior Lindsey Boland won 6-0 and 6-1 to lead Haverhill to a convincing 5-0 win over Notre Dame of Tyngsboro. The Hillies took all but seven games and with the win qualify for the state tournament.

The Vikings (8-7) clinched a post-season berth with an exciting win over the Sachems (7-9) yesterday, 3-2. Triton's Molly Fargeorge (7-6, 6-1) and Allie Murray (6-1, 7-6) won in their singles matches, and Emily and Teresa Kaminski won their doubles match (6-2, 7-5). For Pentucket, first singles Karena Webber (6-3, 6-1) was victorious, and Amy Dickinson and Erica McKee (6-4, 6-2) won their doubles match.

Hornets hold LeFort

Kara LeFort — the only non-senior in the North Reading lineup, battled for a three-set victory as part of a 4-1 non-league victory over Malden. The sophomore rebounded from an opening set loss at second singles to tie things up, 6-0, only to face a tiebreaker in the deciding set. LeFort dominated the tiebreaker, 7-2, to take the triumph.
