Record breakers

Led by senior sensation Nick D'Innocenzo, Andover (411) took second in the MVC championship meet, losing out on first by just 30 points to Chelmsford (441). D'Innocenzo cruised to first-place finishes in the 50 freestlye and 500 freestyle, and was also on the first-place 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams. The Warriors set new meet records in the 50, 500, 200 relay and 100 backstroke.

No sibling rivalry here

Bryan and Michelle Walcker helped lead undefeated North Andover past Austin Prep, 96-74. Bryan took first in the 50 freestyle, while Michelle won the 100 breaststroke. Also registering wins in individual events were Kirsten Kasper (200 freestyle) and Tori Frizelle (500 freestyle).

Ferocious Franklin

Tom Franklin factored into all three of Haverhill's victories in its 98-83 loss to Reading as he won the 100 butterfly (58.95) and was on the first place 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Mike Carbone, Tony Lekani and Mark Lalli swam the other three legs on both relays.

Paul Hunter won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and swam on the winning 200 medley relay as Andover clinched the Merrimack Valley Conference title with a 100-83 win over Chelmsford. Nick D'Innocenzo added wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Hillies making waves

Tom Franklin had a big day, winning the 200 individual medley with a state-qualifying time of 2:10.92 to lead the Haverhill boys swim team to a win over Melrose. Tony Lekani also swam well, winning the 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of 25.16.

Dolan dominates

The North Andover swimming team downed Hamilton-Wenham, 93-72. Jack Dolan was particularly impressive, taking first in both the 500 freestyle (5:45.81) and 100 breastroke (1:14.03), and swimming the second leg of the winning 200 medley relay team. Bryan Walcker (50 freestyle), Tori Frizelle (200 freestyle) and Katie Simpson (100 freestyle) also posted individual wins for the Scarlet Knights.

Hillies hit .500

The Haverhill boys swim team improved to 3-3 with a 91-79 victory over Central Catholic. The Hillies took first in eight of 11 events.

Mike Carbone, Mark Lalli, Tom Franklin and Tony Lekani placed first in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Franklin also claimed the top spot in both the 100 butterfly (1:00.19) and 500 freestyle (5:37.72), as did Lalli in the 50 freestyle (25.00) and 100 freestyle (55.84), and Carbone in the 200 IM (2:19.79).

John Belanger dropped four seconds off his personal best in the 200 individual medley and swam the anchor leg of the winning 200 medley relay team as Andover boys swimming beat Reading 95-80. Paul Hunter won the 100 backstroke in 59.78.

Tom Franklin took part in four winning events for Haverhill in a 95-83 win over Burlington.

Franklin, who won the 200 IM (2:14.22) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.98), was also part of the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.

Near sweep for Andover

The Andover swim team topped Central Catholic 97-80 and barely missed out on placing first in every event in the dual meet. The Golden Warriors lost only the diving and 200 freestyle relay events. Texas bound Nick D’Innocenzo captured a victory in the 200 freestyle (1:56.93) and was also a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:55.87). Paul Hunter (50 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay), Abe Iyengar (200 medley relay, 100 breastroke) and Adam Millerick (500 freestyle, 100 backstroke) each finished with a pair of first place finishes, as well. Central’s Aidan Cusack posted a high score of 151.20 in diving.

Brothers in arms

Brothers John and Peter Belanger teamed with syblings Dave and Paul Hunter to take the 400 freestyle in 3:47.40 as Andover swimming blew out Burlington. John Belanger added wins in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke while Paul Hunter took the 50 fresstyle, 500 freestyle and swam with Peter Belanger on the winning 200 medley relay.
