Steele, Sachems second

Pentucket's Jason Steele claimed second overall, shooting an even-par round of 35 at Bradford Country Club, leading the Sachems to second overall in a four-team meet with the Newburyport (first), Triton and Amesbury. Pentucket moved to 9-6, claiming a pair of victories to lock up a spot in the state tournament. Steele scored 36 points in the Cape Ann quote scoring system, while teammate Vito Martello was fifth at 32.

Raiders Leavitt up to sophomore

Central Catholic locked up the MVC golf title with its 16-4 victory over Chelmsford. Joe Leavitt, the "nucleus" of the Raiders' title run according to head coach Vin Pastore, won his last two holes to win his match at No. 1. Leavitt, a sophomore, has the best record of all No. 1's in league (10-3-1).

Locals lift Prep to league title

St. John's Prep edged BC High, 241-245 to defend its Catholic Conference title. Nick Pandelena of Atkinson shot a 1-over par 37 and Haverhill's Nick Maccario was one stroke behind for the unbeaten Eagles (15-0, 8-0 in the league). Sophomore Nick McLaughlin of Newcastle, N.H., the state Junior champion, was medalist for the Prep with a 1-under 35.

Andover High School wins its match over Chelmsford 15-5, lead by medalist Adam Rosenzweig with a one-under 35 with birdies on three of the last four holes. Janik Koenig had a even par 36, Nicole Boudreau and Mike Pulido had two-over 38s and Mike Levenson rounded the scoring out with a three-over 39.

Methuen ends losing streak

Methuen golf earned its first victory, beating Dracut after starting this fall off with 11 straight losses. "It's been real frustrating because we've been really close all year," said Methuen coach Jeff Osgood who added that his team had a tough road schedule to start the season but that he's more optimistic about some upcoming tournaments at home.   Jake Hulme and and John Newell each shot two-over-par 38s at the Merrimack Valley Golf Club.
