Close call

 

Haverhill's volleyball team ended the regular season undefeated (18-0), but it wasn't easy, edging Andover  3-2. James Murray and Drew Caruso both had 17 kills for the Hillies to offset the 33 kills of Andover's Joe Kuykendall and Zach Sindoni piled up 46 assists.

Different atmosphere, same result

After a chippy encounter in Haverhill a couple of weeks ago, host Methuen and the Hillies engaged in a hard-fought but civil volleyball rematch that Haverhill won again in three straight games. Kyle Mansour was strong at the net for Methuen, but the Hillies had a triple threat in Drew Caruso (13 kills), Tom Oliveira (10 kills and 2 1/2 blocks) and Kevin Hirschfeld (9 kills) that made the difference.

With Zach Sindoni (31 assists) deftly setting up everybody on Haverhill's front line, the Hillies emerged with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-11 victory over Methuen to stay unbeaten at 6-0.

Haverhill looking for continuted volleyball success

HAVERHILL — After squandering the lead in a first-game loss, Haverhill rebounded with three straight wins to defeat visiting Lawrence 3-1 last night.

The Hillies, which won the program's first North Division title last year in a victory over the Lancers, overcame that 32-30 loss in the first game to win the final three by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20.
