Andover stays unbeaten, rallies to victory

READING — Less than five minutes into play, No. 2 Andover field hockey found itself trailing for just the second time this season, and the first time since Sept. 29 against Chelmsford.

 “I saw a couple kids start to play tentative,” said Golden Warriors coach Maureen Noone. “Maybe it was the rain making the ball bounce, but some girls looked nervous. But once we scored, everything started to come together.”

Anne Farnham scored twice and Laura Dimitruk and Jill Manning added a goal and an assist as Andover field hockey pounded Westford, 4-2, in its tourney opener. Midfielder Danielle Walsh and wing Laura Cahill also turned in inspired performances.

Andover makes history

Andover completed the first perfect regular season in modern history with a 6-0 win over Haverhill. Jill Manning scored 44 seconds into the game, and six Golden Warriors scored altogether. Complete Eagle-Tribune records go back through 1989 and in that span this was Andover's first perfect regular season.
