A trio of Pinkerton players made Senior Night special in a 57-30 pummeling of Alvirne. A.J. Guidi lit up the offense with 17 points including three 3-pointers, Laura Pierce drained a pair of 3's and finished with eight points, and Allie Ucich owned the paint for the 17-1 Astros, who start state tourney play Monday.

Owls fall just short

Katie Matatall's 3-pointer and a Timberlane defensive stop set up a shot at victory but a late turnover foiled the Owls in a 40-37 setback to Alvirne. Meghan Short (9 rebounds and 6 assists) and Emily Rose (12 boards) had a hand in getting Timberlane back into contention.

"D" and 3's help Timberlane

Tenacious Timberlane defense forced many Alvirne turnovers and poor shot choices, enabling the Owls to survive a 3 1/2 minute fourth-quarter scoreless string and take third place, 52-48.

Katie Matatall, named to the All-Tournament team, was on fire from the outside as she drained four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 19-point performance. Matatall was clutch as a late lay-in and free throw helped keep Alvirne at arm's length.

Punchless Hillies fall in tourney opener

Both Alvirne and Haverhill brought its A games defensively, combining for 1 for 21 shooting from the field and 18 forced turnovers. Only sophomore Maya Defosses could pierce the armor with 56 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Broncos a mere 2-0 lead.

Butterfield leads Londonderry

Savanna Butterfield recorded a double-double as Londonderry improved to 2-0 on the young season. The 5-10 forward scored 21 points and ripped down 12 rebounds to help the Lancers to a 59-29 win.
