Both Alvirne and Haverhill brought its A games defensively, combining for 1 for 21 shooting from the field and 18 forced turnovers. Only sophomore Maya Defosses could pierce the armor with 56 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Broncos a mere 2-0 lead.
But Alvirne found its offense behind juniors Deanna Purcell (game-high 10 points) and Katie Donovan (nine points) to pull away from the offensively-challenged Hillies, 49-23.
The Broncos and Pentucket will meet in tonight’s other semifinal at 7 p.m.
Haverhill was forced into 24 more turnovers as the game wore on, trailing from the five minute mark of the second quarter to the bitter end.
With eight teammates hitting the scoring sheet, sophomore Meghan Wrenn led Haverhill with five points.
