Sachems lose to Bedford, 62-51

The Pentucket Sachems (4-15) were unable to come back against home-advantaged Bedford last night, losing 62-51. The score at the half was 29-15, Bedford. Joe Casey (15 pts - 10 in the fourth quarter), Connor Harrison (14 pts - 11 in second half), and Jordan Silva (6 pts) all played well for the Sachems.

First CAL win for Sachems

Pentucket made a quick start stand up, dispatching of Amesbury, 57-52 to win its first Cape Ann League contest of the season. The Indians closed to within four in the late stages but junior Taylor Beaton hit all four of his free throws to preserve the victory. John Piccolomini paced the Sachems (4-14) with a career-high 12 points.

Pentucket ended its nine-game losing streak as John Piccolomini and Joe Casey led the Sachems with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.

Bill Medvitz led the Indians with 20 points, Tyler Lay had 14 points, and Steve Serwon had 11 points and 18 rebounds.

The Georgetown Royals (13-3) were able to defeat the Pentucket Sachems (3-13) at home last night, 52-38. The Royals were led by Jaymie Spears (19 points), Mike Messman (8 points; all in the first half), Joe Esposito (9 points, 6 assists), and Julio Colon (4 points, 12 rebounds).

Pentucket was all over the map defensively allowing 45 points in two quarters and only 14 in the other two. Going into the fourth quarter the Sachems held a 10 point lead, but Hamilton-Wenham was able to outscore Pentucket by 15 and pull off the come-from-behind win, 59-54.

Huge fourth quarter

Trailing 42-36 on the road at archrival Newburyport, Pentucket's boys had one of its best fourth quarters of the season to defeat the Clippers 58-53.

Game-high scorer Jordan Silva had eight of his career-high 26 points in the fourth quarter and Harry Shea had five of his 10 points, including a pivotal 3-pointer, in the final frame.

Haverhill repels stubborn Pentucket

HAVERHILL — The result wasn’t a surprise, but the road to it opened some eyes.

Pentucket, from the suburban Cape Ann League, wasn’t given much of a shot last night against a Haverhill team battle-tested in the rugged Merrimack Valley Conference. Besides, the Sachems already had a Greater Haverhill Christmas Tourney loss to Timberlane, which was annihilated by the Hillies Monday night.
