Big Blue earn big win

Phillips Andover baseball posted eight runs in the final two innings to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 10-3 win over Phillips Exeter. Jackson Emus, Jonathan Santucci and North Andover native Tristan Latham each had two RBIs.

Phillips falls in semis

After Phillips baseball suffered it's first loss of the season to Dexter on Wednesday, the two teams met again in the semifinals of the New England Prep School tournament late Saturday. The result was the same, however, with Big Blue falling 2-0, getting stopped a game short of a chance for a repeat title.

Phillips sweeps Exeter

It's always a good day when you beat your archrivals, and Phillips baseball got to do that twice on Saturday. Big Blue beat Phillips Exeter 6-1 and 1-0 in a doubleheader, and remains a perfect 9-0 this spring. In Game 1, LJ Keevan went the distance on the mound and allowed only one, unearned run, and North Andover's Tristan Latham had a double and an RBI. Then in Game 2, Jackson Emus tossed a complete-game one-hitter with 10 strikeouts. The one hit he allowed was the first batter of the game.

Phillips wins in 14th

After playing seven innings over the weekend, Phillips had to go seven more to beat Worcester Academy, 5-3, in 14 innings. Jonathan Santucci's second triple of the game brought in Tristan Latham of North Andover and Andrew Ciufo. Jackson Emus (3 hits, 0 runs) went all seven innings while sophomore Jacob Lapp of Andover (5 innings, 0 runs) had pitched five terrific innings of relief.

9-inning thriller

It took two extra innings, but Phillips Andover topped Belmont Hill, 3-1, after senior Jackson Emus hit a double in the top of the ninth to drive in two runs and win the game. Sophomores Matt Sapienza and Jacob Lapp, both of North Andover, combined to pitch 6 1/3 innings, allow four hits, one run and strike out eight, as Lapp earned his first varsity win.
