Phillips Academy's girls soccer team, on a goal by Meghan Doherty in the first half, held on for a 1-0 win over Brooks in Class A New England prep tournament action. Brooks outshot Phillips 9-4, but Phillips goalie Alex Farrell was perfect on the day. Phillips will face Loomis-Chaffee in today's championship game at The Governor's Academy at 1 p.m.

Phillps spikers fall

Phillips Academy won the first game but then dropped three straight to Hotchkiss in the New England prep Class A semifinals. The Big Blue finished its season at 11-2 while Hotchkiss fell to Choate in the finals.

Hotchkiss too much

Phillips Academy bowed out of the New England Class A prep field hockey tournament yesterday, but its 2-0 loss to Hotchkiss was no disgrace. Hotchkiss is the defending seven-time champion. Phillps finished a superb season with a 14-1-1 record.

Big Blue volleyball rolls

No. 2 Phillips opened the NEPSAC Class A tourney in style, pounding St. Paul's 25-11, 25-16, 25-12. Viola Rothschild notched a team-high seven kills, 18 service points and 16 digs, while Melissa Yan added 18 assists and Sarah Onrato had seven aces for the winners.

Scyocurka, Exeter runs past Andover in annual battle of Phillips'

EXETER N.H. — Phillips Andover had no answer for Phillips Exeter running back Alex Scyocurka plain and simple.

The post-grad for Exeter rushed for an incredible 367 rushing yards while scoring twice as the Big Red of Phillips exeter beat the Phillips Andover Big Blue in the 129th meeting between the two storied schools.

Merrimack's Fischer cited

 Merrimack College sophomore Jason Fischer was named the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week. He  became the first player in school history to intercept three passes in a game, leading Merrimack to a 46-14 victory over Pace to clinch a share of its second-ever Northeast-10 Championship. Fischer returned his second interception 52 yards for his first career touchdown. He finished the year second in the Northeast-10 with six interceptions. The six picks tie the school record set last season by Mike O’Brien.

Cleveland, Phillips roll

ANDOVER — With its epic matchup with archrival Phillips Exeter on the horizon, Phillips Academy warmed up in a big way yesterday.

Behind another stellar game by back Clay Cleveland, and Andover's Mike Bernieri turning in huge plays on defense, the Big Blue cruised to a 47-12 win over Worcester Academy.

NECC rebounds

The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team bounced back strong from an opening-season loss in the New Hampshire Tech Tournament.

Just one day after losing to the host school, the Knights ripped Eastern Maine 111-69. Anthony Siri led the way with 23 points and eight rebounds while Methuen's Matt Richardson and Edwin Gonzalez chipped in with 17 and 16 points respectively. Sted Bourdeau had 10 points, 11 assists and ive steals.

Cleveland rocks, Phillips runs away with win

DEERFIELD — Behind a career performance for Clay Cleveland, Phillips got back on track yesterday.

The former Masconomet star accounted for three touchdowns as the Big Blue offense exploded to snap a two-game losing sked with a 37-18 pounding of Deerfield Academy.
