Sanchez, Whittier out fast

 

MALDEN —  It didn't take Whittier Tech long to grab the upper hand last night.

Jesus Sanchez went right up the middle for a 63-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game, setting the stage for a convincing 29-8 victory over Mystic Valley, lifting the Wildcats to 5-1.

Whittier rallies for thrilling win

WAKEFIELD — It took just under 44 minutes for Whittier to grab its first lead of the day, but when the Wildcats did take the advantage, they made it count.

Trailing by a score with less than two minutes to play, Whittier delivered an 85-yard drive that Jaylin Deveau finished off with a 12-yard touchdown reception from Connor Bradley with 19 seconds left to give the Wildcats an 18-16 come-from behind victory over Northeast.

Whittier wins third straight

Sophomore Connor Bradley directed an effective two-minute drill to end the first half with a touchdown, then Whittier ground out a couple of impressive scoring drives to defeat Southeastern, 36-14. Bradley finished 10 of 17 for 125 yards and two TDs.

Wildcats hang on to down Royals

Whittier battled to a 26-point third-quarter lead, then had to hold off Georgetown's comeback surge to win a 52-48 shootout. Jesus Sanchez rushed for 193 yards and four touchdowns for the winning Wildcats, who added four takeaways on defense. Spread quarterback Niko Edwards was the total package for the Royals, rushing for 179 yards and three touchdowns while throwing for 232 yards and three more scores.

Overtime score helps Whittier to first win

Justin Reyes' first high school reception  — a 12-yard scoring toss from Connor Bradley  — proved to be the game winner as Whittier rallied to defeat Ipswich.

Jesus Sanchez made the touchdown pay by immediately running in the a conversion  — the first successful conversion attempt of a combined six tries in the game.

Stoneham too much for young Wildcats

A youthful Whittier squad showed some jitters on opening day and Stoneham took advantage for a 34-6 victory. The Wildcats suffered three turnovers that the Spartans turned into 22 points as they scored on their first five possessions. A nice 26-yard toss from QB Connor Bradley to sophomore Brandon Lyons in the third quarter netted Whittier its only points.
