MALDEN —  It didn't take Whittier Tech long to grab the upper hand last night.

Jesus Sanchez went right up the middle for a 63-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game, setting the stage for a convincing 29-8 victory over Mystic Valley, lifting the Wildcats to 5-1.

Sanchez finished with 142 yards on 10 carries as the Whittier offense showed good balance, rushing for 246 yards and, behind sophomore quarterback Connor Bradley (9 of 15), passing for 181. Bradley threw TD passes of 20 yards to Jaylin Deveau and 26 yards to Justin Reyes.

Deveau also scored on a 22-yard run as Whittier gained a 21-0 halftime lead and rode its defense the rest of the way.

Xavier Gomez led the Whittier defense with seven tackles while Brandon Desjardins had three tackles, Tim Malone combined four tackles and two assists while defensive back  Doug Angus had an interception and two knockdowns.

Helping out the offense was senior guard Eric Palmer, filling in because of an injury and playing well.

"We're showing good balance, which is making it hard for teams to defend us," said Whirttier coach Kevin Bradley. "This was a good all-around win for us."
