Moving on

With five goals and an assist, Cody Carbone took over the game offensively, but big contributions from Cam Knight (three goals and two assists) and Mike O'Brien (two goals) energized North Reading in a 15-6 win over Archbishop Williams. Brian Conway excelled defensively against a team with three high scorers, sending the Hornets to the Division 3 East semifinals Thursday.

Hornets survive

No. 2 North Reading lacrosse was behind 2-0 at halftime and 3-1 during the third as No. 15 Austin Prep played excellent defense, but the Hornets were able to generate offense in the third and won 8-4 in the first round of the Division 3 East tournament.

Senior Cody Carbone scored his 300th point and has exactly 300 points for his career after netting five goals and adding two assists to lead North Reading 16-1 over Lynnfield.

North Reading got goal scorers from 10 different players in a 15-3 victory over Pentucket.

"I don't think we've ever had that many," said North Reading coach Chuck Canpobasso, whose team is 12-1. "That was the great thing about today."

Goalie Brian Conway kept North Reading close early during an Austin Prep enslaught  and the Hornets rallied for a 7-6 overtime victory to remain unbeaten. Cody Carbone, stifled during regulation, scored the game-winner after Eric Valenti scored a hat trick in regulation.

Georgetown's boys lacrosse team gave highly regarded North Reading all it could handle before the Hornets rallied for an 11-10 victory. Trailing 5-3 at halftime, North Reading (2-0) clawed back, fueled by the four goals and three assists by Cody Carbone. Cam Knight scored the game-winner with two minutes remaining.
