AVERHILL — After allowing last week's opponent (Revere) a game-winning drive, Whittier's mission yesterday was simple: ball control and momentum.

Jack Creesy had two of the Wildcats’ three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown and setting up another as Whittier routed North Shore 32-6. The Wildcats (5-3) ran only 30 plays in the game — 28 fewer than the Bulldogs (1-7).

HAVERHILL — It might not have been a league game Whittier won yesterday, but the Wildcats figure they let future Commonwealth rivals know their ready for the stretch run.

Whittier routed Chelsea 34-9, defeating an opponent that was allowing only 13.6 points a game and has beaten a couple of Commonwealth teams still ahead on the Wildcat schedule.

HAVERHILL — How would this Whittier Tech football respond to last week's brutal beating by Northeast Tech? The Wildcats provided the answer early, like Wednesday.

HAVERHILL — And in one morning on the football field, Whittier Tech had its second-half season quest spelled out in front of them.

Saturday morning's disappointment — a 28-6 thumping at the hands of Northeast Tech — clarified the task even further. The Wildcats can't afford another slip-up, and they're going to need some help.

SOUTH EASTON — After recovering from a long bus ride over the first half, Whittier rode its traditional brand of ball to a 22-12 victory over Southeastern last night.

The Wildcats (2-2) dominated time of possession in the second half, running 35 offensive plays to Southeastern's 13.

STONEHAM — Whittier ran out of time  and dropped a hard-fought 17-16 deision to Stoneham.

The Wildcats scored first on a 59-yard second-quarter run by Scott Bonneau and added a two-point run by Shane Surette to take an 8-0 halftime lead, but Stoneham scored the next 17 points, including two on a safety before Jack Cressy scored on a three-yard rush with 2:27 left in the game.
