SOUTH EASTON — After recovering from a long bus ride over the first half, Whittier rode its traditional brand of ball to a 22-12 victory over Southeastern last night.

The Wildcats (2-2) dominated time of possession in the second half, running 35 offensive plays to Southeastern's 13.

"We owned second half," said Whittier head coach Kevin Bradley. "We had the ball almost the whole half. We kept driving and tired them out."

Holding a slight 8-6 lead, quarterback Shane Surette rushed for a 3-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, then turned a Southeastern turnover into a 6-yard TD jaunt.

Surette applied what Bradley called the "dagger" that locked up the victory. Pushed back to the 20 by penalties on the 2-point conversion, Surette hit Mike Melling for the score and an insurmountable 22-6 lead with 4:35 left in the game.

Surette added an interception to his achievements while Jack Creasy had a forced fumble and recovery as did Kyle Jenkins. Sophomore Jaylin Devoe also drew praise from Bradley for a great job at defensive end, pressuring the quarterback and batting down two balls.

"Southeastern is one of top teams in southern part of the state," said Bradley. "To beat them on their field is a great team victory."
