HAVERHILL — How would this Whittier Tech football respond to last week's brutal beating by Northeast Tech?
The Wildcats provided the answer early, like Wednesday.
"Wasn't a good week to be in a Wildcat at practice this week, we went hard," said Whittier coach Kevin Bradley. "It was a great week of practice, a good, hard, physical week and they really responded."
A business-minded group of Wildcats, battered by the coaching staff in a week of rigorous practice answered last week's disappointment by making quick work of winless Mystic Valley, 42-6, here in the house that Bradley rebuilt.
"It was a huge difference. Last week we were in the same position they were. This week we got to deliver it. And next week is going to be a dog fight," said Whitier senior Shane Surette, who broke off TD runs of 15 and 45 yards, adding 37-yard touchdown pass to Andrew McGrath, all before the intermission as the Whittier starters sat the entire second half.
"We practiced hard this week, so I thought we were ready. The linemen were pumped up, ready to go. Once you get last week beaten out of you in practice, it's all a new game."
The Wildcats, who outgained Mystic Valley, 225-25 in a 36-0 first half, spread the wealth.
Jaylin Deveaux struck on a 47-yard TD run, while sophomore Scott Bonneau hit paydirt from 37 and Craig Boisselle chipped in a 17-yard TD.
"We've got Chelsea coming up here next week with a very good power-I (offense)," said Bradley. "It's going to be a good test to see how we respond to that."
