The North Reading volleyball team, seeded 10th, used balance to upend No. 1 seed Greater Lawrence in the Division 2 North quarterfinals.

Greater New Bedford trimmed fellow unbeaten Greater Lawrence, 3-1, in the state vocational volleyball semifinals. Shabelli Villa led the 20-1 Reggies with 17 service points, 4 aces and 22 digs.

After clinching the CAC volleyball title with its win the game before, Greater Lawrence finished a perfect 20-0 season with an easy three-game sweep of Northeast. Trudy Goetchius was immense once again for the Reggies with 16 kills and 5 blocks.

Coming off the bench, Millie Tavaras served Greater Lawrence from a 13-11 deficit in the decisive fifth game to a 15-13 victory, driving the Reggies to the CAC championship over Greater Lowell. "She had good practices so I played her a lot (yesterday)," said head coach Kevin Maloney. "She was serving BB's out there."

Senior Casey Colbert had likely her best game of the season as she recorded 16 kills and eight blocks to lead Greater Lawrence volleyball to a 3-2 comeback win over Shawsheen.

Trudy Goetchius was a force at the net with 19 kills and 7 blocks, while Shabeli Villa (10 service points, 6 aces and 21 digs) offered quality baseline play as Greater Lawrence beat Whittier in three straight games. The Reggies moved to a perfect 12-0 with the win.

Trudy Goetchius tallied 26 kills and 10 blocks to help Greater Lawrence stay undefeated and deal rival Greater Lowell its first loss of the season, 25-21, 33-31, 25-22.
