Belmont Hill led 39-33 at the half but Phillips coach Leon Modeste must have given a heck of a halftime speech as the Big Blue outscored the visitors 51-23 in the second half to post an 84-62 win. Haverhill's Tom Palleschi erupted for 23 points and 18 rebounds. "He was ridiculous," said Modeste of the 6-8 junior.

Belmont Hill halts Brooks, 35-13

BELMONT — The Brooks Express came to a an abrupt halt yesterday in a 35-13 loss to Belmont Hill.

After four straight wins to start the season, Brooks was no match for a Belmont Hill squad (4-1) which, according to Brooks coach Alex Konovalchik, "had several good athletes but was mainly just too physical up front."

Wild win for Phillips

The Big Blue were able to push three runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning to come back and win, 7-6, over Belmont Hill. With one out and the bases loaded, Jack Doyle missed hitting a game-winning grand slam by just a few feet, pulling the ball foul. He would go on to strike out, but a bad pickoff attempt by the catcher plated a pair of runs and tied the game, leaving Tom Palleschi as the winning run at second base. Sam Auffant proceeded to knock a double to drive in Palleschi for the game-winning RBI as Phillips improved to 3-0.

Kreider continues to roll

Area leading scorer Chris Kreider racked up goals No. 23 and 24 on the season (as well as an assist) as Phillips dominated Belmont Hill, 5-1. Brooks Dryoff had two points with a goal and an assist, and Jim Houghton and Trevor Braun rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece. Glenn Stowell had 22 saves.
