SALEM — Tayllar Righini, with 12 seconds left in the second overtime, scored the game winning goal that propelled Salem to a 2-1 victory over Alvirne.

"As soon as she hit it, you could tell that it would hit the net," said coach Kendrick Whittle. "She looked excited and started screaming"

"I was very exicted, there's no other feeling in the world," exclaimed Tayllar Righini. "I was in the right place at the right time."

Coach Whittle had told Righini to be more aggressive on the field. "I definitely felt more aggressive during play today, and definitely during that goal."

The goal was Righini's second of the season, which was scored from the top of the box. If she had not scored the goal, the game would have ended as a tie.

"She's a fundamentally sound player and she had a nice moment. When you score an overtime goal, it's something you probably won't forget."

Salem improves to 9-1-1, which keeps them in the regular season title run.  Its next game is at Timberlane Regional High School on Friday.
