Salem pitcher Nora Galvin pitched a superb game and did all she could to help her own cause, but Alvirne freshman Taylor Carbone was just a tab superior in a 1-0 victory. Galvin struck out 10 and allowed just one hit, but that was a long home run by Carbone in the bottom of the sixth. Carbone, meanwhile, struck out 12 and allowed only three hits — all by Galvin.

"It was almost like they were the only two players in the game," said Salem coach Harold Sachs.
