Matt Michel won't soon forget his varsity debut. The sophomore threw a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts and was just a second-inning walk from a perfect game.
Coach Joe Boland said, "He mixed it up all day long. He threw strikes and had a nice change of speeds."
A couple of Whittier freshmen who have seen little or no varsity time were also immense in the 8-0 win over struggling Chelsea. Aidan Shea made a diving catch and Kyle Eddy homered in his second varsity at-bat.
