Phillips Academy allowed three first quarter touchdowns, and could not recover on the way to a 49-7 loss to Choate.
"Choate is a very, very good team," said Phillips coach Leon Modeste. "They haven't lost in about 2 ½ years and you can see why. We knew we faced a very tough matchup, and today we were overmatched. They are excellent."
Phillips broke up the shutout late, as running back Andrew Antonucci broke free for a 27-yard touchdown. He finished the day with 72 yards on eight carries. Former Eagle-Tribune All-Star T.J. Urbanick added 27 yards on eight carries.
Middle linebacker Adam Cohen led the Big Blue defense with 12 tackles while Kevin Mackowski.
"We played hard right to the end and that was a good sign," said Modeste. "We were able to hold out own in the second half, and that is good. Next we have a very tough Cheshire team, so we need to get back to work."
