EXETER — Pinkerton seemed down for the count but the Astros used a huge rally to beat Exeter, 10-8 in extra innings.
Trailing 7-0, Pinkerton (9-7) struck for four runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Andrew Curran, Ryan Feeney (2 runs) and Kruz Komaridis. The visitors took the lead the following inning on Feeney's 350-foot grand slam over the left-field fence.
Exeter (7-6) tied it with a run in the bottom of the sixth.
After a scoreless seventh, the Astros pushed two runs across in the eighth. Curran drew a lead-off walk and with one out stole second. Chris Guerrera singled him in for the eventual game-winner. Exeter wisely intentionally walked Feeney but Komaridis followed with an RBI single.
Nick Pica relieved Curtis Lonergan with two outs in the second and was brilliant over the next 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. He closed out the Blue Hawks in style. Not just a 1-2-3 inning, but a 1-2-3 inning which required just five pitches.
