BILLERICA — There’s some things a team just can’t prepare for.

Knowing he had a talented roster this season, one that harkened back to the program’s glory days five years ago, Whittier head coach and athletic director Kevin Bradley put together a challenging non-league slate of games.

On her birthday, junior forward Christina Medley (season-high 25 points) drilled four straight 3-pointers on a crucial fourth-quarter run, helping Whittier come back for a 55-47 non-league victory over Division 1 Everett. Danielle Martin had 9 of her 11 points in the second-half turnaround and sophomore Josie Sanchez (12 rebounds and 3 blocks) was fierce in the paint for the Wildcats.

Whittier girls basketball scored 31 points in the second quarter alone to beat Mount Everett 72-47. Jessica Goulet and Christina Medley combined to pour in 17 of the 31 points. Six different people scored during that period.

Becca DeBaldo scored 15 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter as Pelham topped Whittier 67-61.

Whittier Tech senior Danielle Martin continues to get healthier and yesterday scored a season-high 27 points in a 74-41 victory over Minuteman.

Ashley LeBlanc scored 10 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Amanda Petrow scored 13 and registered 11 rebounds as Methuen rolled past Whittier, 62-41. Beka Costa added 14 points for the 4-12 Rangers.

Sophomore Josie Sanchez played strong inside, delivering six points and seven rebounds as Whittier Tech built a 42-19 lead through three quarters and held off Amesbury, 55-48.

HAVERHILL — For 16 minutes last night, the Division 2 Whittier girls looked like a team that was sluggish and a bit overmatched.

Considering it was playing its fifth game in as many nights and were facing a Division 1 opponent in Methuen, it was understandable.

Christina Medley scored 13 points, including netting three 3-pointers and Jennifer Hinds and Danielle Martin each netted 10 points but Whittier girls basketball lost 47-45 in overtime to Shawsheen.
