PEABODY | Thanksgiving Day at Donaldson Field was supposed to be the Bobby Tarr Show. Bishop Fenwick's record-breaking back had to share the spotlight with junior Dan Kennedy, however.

Kennedy scored Fenwick's first touchdown in the second quarter on a 10-yard run and returned an interception 60 yards for another score as the Crusaders overpowered Austin Prep, 28-16.

Tarr, Fenwick end season in style by beating Austin Prep

PEABODY | It hardly seems fair that Bobby Tarr's high school football career quietly came to an end here at Donaldson Field yesterday morning.

A parade was not held, banners were not hung, and Tarr | Bishop Fenwick's record-breaking running back | was not carried off the field on his teammates' shoulders after helping the Crusaders close out the season with a 28-16 victory over Austin Prep.

Tarr taking his records in stride

Bobby Tarr1 Photo

In his three years as a member of the varsity football team at Bishop Fenwick, only Matt Morrison has been able to contain Bobby Tarr.

Every week teams line up 10 and 11 defenders in the box defensively, with two or three shadows focused solely on stopping Tarr, Fenwick's star running back. And every week through two football seasons, Tarr has piled on the yards. It was Morrison, Fenwick's starting tailback in 2005, who kept the Crusaders' record-breaking back from routinely surpassing 200 yards per game.

Bishop Fenwick football turns back St. Mary's

LYNN | Manning Field seemed like a forbidding place for the Bishop Fenwick football team to revive its season Saturday.

It was a dark, dreary atmosphere, with the skies threatening a downpour throughout the afternoon, and the shaky Crusaders were fighting a two-game losing streak in which they had been burned for a total of 64 points.

Despite Tarr's 325 yards, Fenwick can't stop Arlington Catholic

ARLINGTON | The two or three shadows Arlington Catholic coach Serge Clivio assigned weren't enough to slow down Bishop Fenwick running back Bobby Tarr. But neither Tarr, his 325 yards rushing or the torrential rain that drifted over Arlington High School in the second half was enough to derail the Cougars' potent offense. Arlington Catholic built a first half lead and matched Fenwick's three second half touchdowns for a 42-26 win.

Swampscott defense takes a stand, stops Fenwick

PEABODY | Bishop Fenwick's Bobby Tarr needed only one more yard to surpass 200 yards on the ground for the fourth time in six games this season.

Had he picked up that single yard, the undermanned Crusaders might have shocked Swampscott at Donaldson Field last night.

Crusaders hope to overcome injuries in showdown with Swampscott

1 Photo

Bishop Fenwick football coach Dave Woods gets a new appreciation for Bobby Tarr with every game film he watches. In a season of uncertainty, Tarr has been Fenwick's constant.

The Crusaders, who face another major obstacle tomorrow night when they host 4-1 Swampscott, have battled injuries since dropping their first game of the season to Masconomet three weeks ago. At this point, Tarr may not even know the names of some of the players blocking for him, but it hasn't stopped the record-breaking back from piling up yardage in his senior season.
