Phillips falls in semis

A shorthanded goal in the second period and an empty-netter with under a minute left doomed the Phillips girls hockey team in a 2-0 loss to No. 2 Nobles in the N.E. Prep Division 1 semifinals. It was the farthest Phillips had advanced in the tourney in 13 years, since assistant coach Melissa Tetreau of Methuen, who played at Boston University, was a senior on the team.

Phillips nets upset

 

The Phillips Academy girls hockey team pulled off an upset in the first round of the NEPSAC Division 1 tournament, scoring in every period in a 4-2 victory over No. 3 seed Tabor (21-3). Anna Bargman scored twice for the Big Blue (14-5-2), who advance to Saturday's semifinals.

Must-win magic

Lilly Feeney was the hero, punching in the game-winning goal with 90 seconds left to send Phillips girls hockey to a feel-good 2-1 win over rival Exeter. What more, the win pushed Phillips into the postseason. A loss would have brought an end to the season.

Finding a Wimmer

Facing a three-game skid, the Phillips girls hockey team turned to sophomore Katie Wimmer of Windham to make her first career start. It went as well as anyone could have imagined, as Wimmer turned away 28 shots in a 5-1 win over New Hampton (12-6-1). The win was huge for Phillips (8-4-3) as it jockeys for playoff positioning.
