METHUEN - It was a tough night for Methuen girls soccer, losing a double-overtime heartbreaker to Medford 2-1 in the first round of the Division 1 North playoffs.

With its 4-0 win over Methuen, the No. 1 Central Catholic girls soccer team clinched the MVC Division 1 championship. Ashley Raphael had two goals and Elayna Grillakis had three assists.

Methuen girls soccer qualified for the state tournament for the second year in a row with its 0-0 tie against Tewksbury. Megan Langlois made 12 saves to record her 10th shutout of the year.

Haverhill's Jessica Kramer made 10 saves and Methuen's Megan Langlois stopped 13 shots as the two teams played to a 0-0 tie.
