There will be a new Division 1 North girls soccer champion this year.

Lincoln-Sudbury made sure of that yesterday, scoring early on and making that one goal stand up in a 1-0 upset of defending champion Masconomet.

A sense of revenge could be be the air this afternoon when the once-beaten Masconomet Regional girls soccer team puts its 15-0-2 game unbeaten streak on the line against visiting Lincoln- Sudbury in the Division 1 North quarterfinals.

Needing a win to clinch a share of the Cape Ann League crown, Masconomet wasted no time putting the pressure on, handing co-champ North Andover its first league loss of the year, 2-0. Amy White opened the scoring just 4:30 into the game and Lucy Gildein added a goal in the second half to deliver the goods for the Chieftains (14-1-2, 11-0-2 CAL).

The Clippers played what coach Robb Gonnam believes to be their best half of the season en route to taking a 1-0 lead into the break against Masconomet. Jillian Kinter scored the lone Clippers' goal at 16:19. Unfortunately, the home team came out of the break a step behind and Masco's Ashley McKinley made the Clippers pay with a goal in the 55th minute.

Annie Burns recorded her fifth shutout of the season as Masconomet downed Manchester Essex 7-0.

Ashley McKenelley scored twice and had an assist and Blaire Shrewsbury dished out two helpers as the Chieftans (7-1, 5-0 CAL) remained unbeaten in league action.

Masconomet improved 5-1 and goalkeeper Annie Burns picked up her third shutout of the year as the Chieftans blanked Ipswich 4-0. Cait Clark netted two goals for Masconomet and Jamie Wright added two assists.

The Masconomet Lady Chieftans are 4-1, but coach Paula Yanakakis is still concerned about the lack of production. "Our goalie, (junior) Annie Burns, has been outstanding; she had 12 saves in a 1-0 win over (arch rival) North Andover last week. We've been outshooting our opponents, but only clicking for one or two goals. Hopefully we'll break out soon. I think we need a 5-6 goal game to get us going," Yanakakis said.

Cara Connors and Ashley McKennelly scored for Masconomet, which rode a three-save effort from Annie Burns to a 2-0 win over Triton.

North Andover fell to Masconomet 1-0. Knights goalkeeper Maya Miatkowski kept her team in the game, making 11 big saves. Other North Andover standouts included midfielders Jackie Sullivan, Morgan Healey and Kelly Cardinal.

Ashley McKenelley notched a goal and an assist as Masconomet downed Wilmington 3-1. Danielle Staub and Lucy Gildein also scored for the Chieftains, and Annie Burns made four saves in the win.
