The Clippers played what coach Robb Gonnam believes to be their best half of the season en route to taking a 1-0 lead into the break against Masconomet. Jillian Kinter scored the lone Clippers' goal at 16:19. Unfortunately, the home team came out of the break a step behind and Masco's Ashley McKinley made the Clippers pay with a goal in the 55th minute.
"It was a tale of two halves," Gonnam said. "We played our best half of the past few seasons before halftime. Then we came out undiscliplined and disorganized in the second half. "We're not disappointed. We can learn more from a tie than a win, and that's what we'll need going into the tournament."
Newburyport (9-1-1) sits behind North Andover (9-1) and Masconomet (7-1-1) in the CAL standings.
