With its back to the wall, Whittier Tech delivered in style, grabbing a share of the Commonwealth Conference lead with a 9-6 win over Shawsheen Tech. Dillon Ryan picked up the win, striking out five in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief work. Nate Allen paced the Wildcats attack with three hits and a pair of RBIs. Steve Surette and standout frosh Nathan Frongillo each had two hits and drove in two. The Cats can lock up at least a piece of the title with Shawsheen and Greater Lowell by knocking off Minuteman in the league finale.
Read More »Colby Starner blasted a three run homer over the fence in left field as part of an eight-run comeback rally by Whittier, who beat Shawsheen 9-8. Whittier entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 8-1. Steve Surette tied the game on a base hit to right. Billy Lafferty walked with bases loaded to earn the winning RBI.
