Hotchkiss too much

Phillips Academy bowed out of the New England Class A prep field hockey tournament yesterday, but its 2-0 loss to Hotchkiss was no disgrace. Hotchkiss is the defending seven-time champion. Phillps finished a superb season with a 14-1-1 record.

Andover moves on

Behind two goals from Elisa Flynn and Katie Riley, Phillips Andover cruised to a 4-0 win over Tabor, moving on to the semifinals on Saturday against Hodgkiss (at Deerfield, noon).

Merrimack's Fischer cited

 Merrimack College sophomore Jason Fischer was named the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week. He  became the first player in school history to intercept three passes in a game, leading Merrimack to a 46-14 victory over Pace to clinch a share of its second-ever Northeast-10 Championship. Fischer returned his second interception 52 yards for his first career touchdown. He finished the year second in the Northeast-10 with six interceptions. The six picks tie the school record set last season by Mike O’Brien.

NECC rebounds

The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team bounced back strong from an opening-season loss in the New Hampshire Tech Tournament.

Just one day after losing to the host school, the Knights ripped Eastern Maine 111-69. Anthony Siri led the way with 23 points and eight rebounds while Methuen's Matt Richardson and Edwin Gonzalez chipped in with 17 and 16 points respectively. Sted Bourdeau had 10 points, 11 assists and ive steals.

Phillips emerges in showdown

Windham, NH's Kyleigh Keating scored a goal to help Phillips Academy to a 3-0 win over Nobles in a battle of the two top teams in New England Prep.  The win improved Phillips to 8-0-1 whe Nobles drops to 9-1.

Despite dominating Choate throughout the game, Phillips Academy had to rally for a 2-1 field hockey win yesterday with former Salem High star Kyleigh Keating scoring the game-winner with just 2:09 left to play.
