Having not played in goal since middle school, senior Kim Surette stepped in for an injured Ali Laliberte and helped author a 2-0 shutout by Sanborn's field hockey team over Franklin. Jess King's penalty stroke a minute into second half play was all the Indians (4-8) needed.

Nicole Foster's interception of a clearing pass and accurate blast from 20 feet out garnered Sanborn a 1-0 victory over Mascenic. The Indians (2-7) got a strong game from the back line out as Jess King excelled defensively, Amanda Butler effectively joined offense and defense together at midfield, and forwards Jackie Dow and Rebecca Twiss worked the ball well on the forward line.

Newfound 5, Sanborn 1

Diminutive goalie Ali Laliberte played far better than the final score indicated in Sanborn's 5-1 loss to unbeaten Newfound. Against the league leaders, Laliberte made several four-star saves while under near-constant pressure as her opponents tossed 33 shots at the Indians' cage.

Gilford 2, Sanborn 1 (OT)

Despite a superb save by Ali Laliberte to preserve a second-half tie, Gilford broke through with 3:35 left in overtime to edge Sanborn, 2-1. Rebecca Twiss opened the scoring for the Indians (1-5) with 8 1/2 minutes left in the first half. Junior Jess King was a force on defense to help out LaLiberte (eight saves).

The 129-mile bus ride back from Profile School in Bethlehem to Sanborn Regional had to be a tough one after a hard-fought 1-0 field hockey loss.

Somersworth 1, Sanborn 0

A Somersworth time-out took some of the steam out of a swarming Sanborn offense, allowing the Hilltoppers to score 14 minutes into play and hold on for a 1-0 victory. Goalie Ali Laliberte dealt with the change in field position well, turning aside six shots in the Indians' season-opener.
