Newburyport qualified for the state tournament with its 10th win of the season defeating Hamilton-Wenham, 5-1. Ryan O'Connor improved his record on the mound to 4-0, while Kyle McElroy and Tommy Morris each hit two-run home runs.

Browner still perfect

Freshman Ryan Browner improved to 4-0 while limiting Hamilton-Wenham to four runs (one earned) and striking out six over six innings of work in Georgetown's 16-5 victory. Anthony Conte, Danyer Fabian and Dan Noelk all drove in two for the Royals.

Georgetown 16, Hamilton-Wenham 5

In what was an ugly defensively game on both sides, Georgetown broke out of its mini slump and pounded Hamilton-Wenham to end the Royals three-game losing streak.

Ryan Browner (6 innings pitched, 4 runs, 1 earned run, 6 strike outs, 1 walk) stayed undefeated on the mound to move to 4-0 for the Royals. Anthony Conte had a big day at the plate going 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Dan Noelk (2 for 3, 2 RBIs) and Mike Ruh (2 hits) also played well for Georgetown.

Hamilton-Wenham 2, Amesbury 1

In a tight game, Amesbury nearly made a dramatic come-back in the bottom of the seventh, but just came up short leaving two runners stranded in scoring position to end the game. Jared Flannigan scored the Indians lone run after getting on base with a walk, stealing second, and getting hit home on a double by J.C. Collette.

Comeback for the Knights

Alec Jillson doubled to open the sixth inning, sparking North Andover's two-run inning which erased a one-run deficit and led the Knights to a 5-3 win at Hamilton-Wenham. Nick Waszczuk hit a two-run homer in the second inning and the game ended with Ryan Sifferlen making an outstanding catch to secure the win. Aaron Brunette worked fiv innings to earn the win and Michael Weisman picked up the save with two innings of no-hit relief.

Singer on key

Kevin Singer and North Reading continued its hot start yesterday with a 6-0 shutout of Hamilton-Wenham. Singer threw a four-hitter, striking out four, for his second win and helped his own cause with two hits and two runs scored. The Hornets (3-0) also played errorless ball for their third straight game.
