Dwight throws 3 TDs, Pentucket downs Hamilton-Wenham

HAVERHILL — Chase Dwight threw for 132 yards and three touchdowns as Pentucket rebounded from its first loss of the season by downing Hamilton-Wenham 20-12.

Trailing 6-0 after a quarter, Dwight gave Pentucket (3-1)  its first lead of the day when he found Brandon Lee for a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Clippers dominate opener

Newburyport golf opened its season with a decisive home win over Hamilton-Wenham, taking the match 148-94. Colin Richmond led the Clippers with 33 points while Sam Lyman and Andrew Cullen tied for second with 29 points. Newburyport is now 1-0 to start interim coach Bill Pettingell's tenure.

Caceres, Mezidor shine but Reggies fall

WEST ANDOVER — Jose Caceres (21-136) and Ader Mezidor (10-111) both surpassed 100 yards rushing but Greater Lawrence couldn't overcome a 26-0 halftime deficit and lost to Hamilton-Wenham 26-16. The Reggies (1-2) did all their scoring in the third quarter on two short TD runs by Caceres, who also added both conversions.

Down to the wire

Newburyport and Hamilton-Wenham volleyball played about as close a match as possible on Wednesday, but the Clippers wound up falling in five sets 3-2. Newburyport lost the first set 20-25, won the second 26-24 and then got creamed 9-25 in the third before rallying back and winning the fourth 25-23, setting up the decisive fifth set. The two teams tied 15-15 to effectively go to sudden death, but Hamilton-Wenham got the winning points to take the final set 17-15. Sydney Yim led Newburyport with five kills, five blocks and six aces, and Grace Shelley added five kills in the loss.

The Newburyport and Hamilton-Wenham golf teams played a thriller at Myopia Hunt Club on Tuesday, with the Generals edging out the Clippers by just one point in a 135-134 win. Jacob Grossi-Hogg scored 36 points, Michael Twomey had 25, Sam Lyman added 21 and Colin Richmond scored 20.
