HAMILTON — Things can change in a heartbeat. 

After looking poised to score with just over a minute and a half left in the fourth quarter in a tie game against Hamilton Wenham, a costly Georgetown fumble gave the ball back to the Generals who marched down the field in just six plays to kick the game-winning field goal with just five seconds left.

North Reading field hockey, which had only scored three goals all season, scored three yesterday in a 3-1 win over Hamilton-Wenham. It was the Hornets' second win, setting a new record for the 7-year-old varsity program. Kaycee Janinno, Melissa Psallidas and Jen Bash scored.

Saint Anselm freshman quarterback Michael Pierce of Andover has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance at Stonehill and was named as the league's Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

North Andover's field hockey team blanked Hamilton-Wenham 3-0 to clinch at least a share of the Cape Ann League large school title. A victory against Wilmington today will give the title to the Knights outright.

HAMILTON — North Reading first squandered a 16-point, third-quarter lead then saw a possible game-tying drive crash at the 4-yard line with less than a minute remaining en route to a 24-16 defeat at Hamilton-Wenham yesterday afternoon.

Lauren Pawlowski scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season as North Reading easily defeated Hamilton-Wenham, 4-0. Pawlowski converted a direct kick and a penalty kick in the first half to put the Hornets (7-3-3) on top to stay.

“Everything really came together,” said Pentucket coach Ruth Beaton of the Sachems' 3-0 defeat of Hamilton-Wenham. Bernadette Corrado had two goals while the defense was sparked by Victoria Knight, Sarah Dillon and Corinne Colpitts.

WEST NEWBURY — For Pentucket, it was nice to get back to the friendly confines of the Cape Ann League.

Taking advantage yesterday of a Hamilton-Wenham squad struggling with key early-season injuries, the Sachems (now 1-2) did what they do best. The venerable Winged-T offense dependably rattled off clock-killing drives that invariably ended in points, and the feisty defense shed blockers efficiently and had an impressive number of 1-on-1 tackles.
