Eight Chelmsford runs in the middle innings created too much of a gap for Andover to overcome, eventually falling, 11-7. Freshman Molly Awiszus had two hits and four runs batted in from the ninth spot in the Golden Warrior lineup and seventh hitter Megan Pettoruto had three hits and an RBI.

Grand-slam Senior time

On Senior Day for the Andover softball team, Alex Strock had a grand slam, went 5 for 5 and had five RBIs while Ashley Coffey started and smacked two doubles and drove in three runs in a 15-3 rout of Notre Dame.

Wins are never ugly

Methuen battled through a tough defensive day with a late offensive surge to get past Andover, 5-2. Sophomore Becca Caterino provided the productive at-bats for the Rangers (9-3) as a third-inning ground-out scored a run, a single in the fifth tied the game, and a base hit in the sixth yielded a big insurance tally. Paige Fleming pitched in with a perfect 3-for-3 effort including a double and a walk. For the Golden Warriors (5-9), Jeanette Doucette thrived at the top of the order with a pair of hits and a run scored.

Milestones

Freshman Kayla Maloney slugged her first career homer — a bomb to dead center — to lead Central Catholic in a 9-1 win over Andover. Winning pitcher Liz Habib gave up one hit and struck out six batters over five strong innings.
