Sullivan, Warriors bow out

No. 9 Andover led by a goal at the half, but could not hold on and fell to Reading 9-7 in the first round of the Division 1 North girls lacrosse tournament. Heather Sullivan and Cat Gross (two assists) each scored once and Ally Fazio had a goal and an assist for the Golden Warriors (14-5-2).

7's lucky for Sullivan

Heather Sullivan racked up a season-high seven goals as Andover edged Chelmsford, 13-12.

Trailing 12-9 with three minutes to play, the Lions stormed back to even the score, netting the equalizer with 0:38 to go. It was Sullivan, however, that put home the game-winner on an uncontested shot in front of the net after a Chelmsford turnover. Said coach John McVeigh, "This team just shows a ton of heart and (the win) keeps us alive to win a share of the league title."

Jules of the Warriors

Given the chance to play in the field, regular goalie Jules Konjoian scored her first career goal in Andover's 15-5 win over Lowell. In her first career start, goalie Brianne Deyermond made six saves in the victory.

Andover's girls lacrosse game with Acton-Boxborough was postponed due to lightning. The Golden Warriors held a 5-4 lead with 20 minutes to play when lightning struck. The game will start from the beginning on a date still to be determined.

Cat Gross scored with 50 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime, then scored twice in the extra session to give Andover a 12-9 victory over Pinkerton, dealing the powerhouse Astros their first loss of the season. Gross finished the day with seven goals while Heather Sullivan, in her secomd game back from injury, had a hat trick.

Seniors shine for injury plagued Andover

ANDOVER — Andover’s Katie and Emily Shields grimaced together while having their knees tended to on the trainer’s cart. Both girls went down with lower leg injuries in the final minute of yesterday’s 9-6 win over North Andover, with sophomore Katie sustaining a knee injury that coach John McVeigh said “looked pretty bad.”
