MANCHESTER, N.H. — With the program’s first state championship within reach, it was Timberlane’s version of the Big 3 which stepped up to clinch the title.

Ryan Rothwell sent the game into overtime with a highlight-reel save with just one second left in regulation, and star forwards Nick Bundzinski and Trevor DeVitto combined for the winning goal in the extra session as the three stalwarts brought home the crown.

Such was the case for the Timberlane hockey team, which recovered from a late third-period meltdown to claim its first-ever Division 2 state title at the Verizon Wireless Arena yesterday, defeating Oyster River 3-2 in overtime.

SALEM, N.H. — After combining for a whopping 117 points in the regular season, Timberlane’s dynamic top line picked up right where it left off in the playoffs.

Center Zach Fox scored twice and forwards Nick Bundzinski and Trevor DeVitto each scored once as the top-seeded Owls downed No. 8 Kingswood, 4-2, last night in the first round of the New Hampshire Division 2 tournament.

Timberlane trounced Oyster River, 6-0, behind a trio of three-point performances from Trevor DeVitto (two goals, assist), Austin Viens (goal, two assists) and Zach Fox (three assists). Ryan Rothwell picked up his area-leading seventh shutout of the season with 15 saves between the pipes.

Shut out through two quarters, Zach Fox and Timberlane found the touch in the third and exploded for a 5-1 victory over Kingswood. Fox tallied a hat trick and Trevor DeVitto and Ryan Lynch each scored once for the Owls, who have won 14 of its last 15.

Last night, it was Zach Fox's turn to shine. The junior center to scored a pair of goals, giving him 13 for the season, to help Timberlane defeat Goffstown 4-2.

Ryan Rothwell pitched his area-best sixth shutout of the season as Timberlane topped Merrimack 4-0. Rothwell had 19 saves, and Trevor DeVitto and Nick Budzinski each tallied a goal and an assist.

With four goals and five assists in the 6-0 Owls victory over defending state champion Dover, the combo of Zach Fox (3 goals), Nick Bundzinski (1 goal, 1 assist) and Trevor DeVitto (4 assists) have now accounted for 24 points in the last two games for streaking (8-1) Timberlane.

It was quite a night for Timberlane's first-line, which lit up Keene in an 8-1 romp. Trevor DeVitto erupted for four goals, Zach Fox outpointed him with a goal and a whopping five assists, and Nick Bundzinski added a goal and four assists.

Freshman Giovanni Frias of Lawrence was third in the high jump, sophomore Cory Murray of Methuen was first in the shot put among collegians and fourth overall and junior William Nguidjoi of Lawrence topped the Division II field (seventh overall) in the long jump (20-4 1/4) and placed second and eighth) in the triple jump (41-6 1/2).Also, Angus MacDonald of Methuen was sixth in th 3,000 meters with an 8:31.29.
