SALEM, N.H. — After combining for a whopping 117 points in the regular season, Timberlane’s dynamic top line picked up right where it left off in the playoffs.
Center Zach Fox scored twice and forwards Nick Bundzinski and Trevor DeVitto each scored once as the top-seeded Owls downed No. 8 Kingswood, 4-2, last night in the first round of the New Hampshire Division 2 tournament.
With the win, Timberlane advances to the semifinals on Wednesday at the JFK Rink in Manchester against Dover.
The Owls, winners of 13 straight, took the lead with 6:22 left in the first. After grabbing a rebound, Dayne Denton fired a centering pass to DeVitto, who hammered it just under goalie Rob Gallagher’s stick into the lower left corner of the net for his 19th goal of the season, a power-play tally to make the score 1-0. Bundzinski added an assist on the play.
Timberlane added to its lead 1:54 into the second when DeVitto picked off a pass and slid the puck to Fox, who broke in alone and faked out Gallagher for his 17th of the year.
Just 2:10 later, Bundzinski chipped in his team-high 20th tally, a slap shot goal on a power play, to make it 3-0. Denton added his second assist of the game. Fox netted his second goal of the night just a minute into the third, an unassisted tally.
Kingswood did break through with a goal with 5:54 remaining in the second and added another in the third, but otherwise, the Knights never tested Timberlane goalie Ryan Rothwell, who needed to make only nine saves.
