St. John's Prep was on top of its game Saturday and rolled to the Division 1 dual-meet state title, romping past West Springfield 51-17 in its last meet. Rawson Iwanicki of Andover was 3-0 for the Prep.

Carbone's big win

 

North Andover's wrestling team lost both ends of a double dual meet at St. John's Prep but 195-pounder Jack Carbone was 2-0 and had a big pin over highly-regarded Owen Gaffny of the Prep and Ethan Ford had two pins at 132, including one over the Prep's Quinn Alexander of North Andover.

Payton Sills on track

 

Payton Sills continued his fine season by winning all three of his matches as Windham won one of three meets in a quad-meet at St. John's Prep. Jayson Clementi was also 3-0 for the Jaguars (10-7-1). St. John's Prep remained unbeaten with three more wins.

Iwanicki on fire

 

Andover's Rawson Iwanicki is really hitting his stride for the St. John's Prep wrestling team. After beating two ranked wrestlers last Saturday, the freshman 138-pounder defeated No. 3-rated Liam McAveny 7-3 Monday as the Prep won four times to improve to 23-0-1 on the year.

Salem handles Lawrence

 

In one of the tougher quad-meets you could find, Salem only went 1-2, losing to powerhouses St. John's Prep (45-22) and Franklin (51-26), but the Blue Devils competed well and defeated Lawrence (43-30) for the first time in over a decade. Matt Adams (126) and Beau Dillon (220) were both 3-0 on the day and freshman Matteo Mustapha (132) was one of five Devils who were 2-1.
