Clippers drop Vikings

With the game scoreless at halftime, Newburyport and Triton traded goals before the Clippers scored the winner with 3:28 remaining to win 2-1 and deal a major blow to the Vikings' tournament hopes. Alex Sirek scored the winner off an assist from Callie Beauparlant, and Newburyport initially took the lead on a Shannon Brennan goal. Newburyport is now 10-6-1 on the season, while Triton is 7-7-1 and must now either win or tie its last game against North Reading on Wednesday to qualify for the postseason.

Sachems qualify

The Pentucket field hockey team punched its ticket to the state tournament, beating Triton 2-0 to improve to 9-4-1 on the year. Lily Meyer and Clara Dore scored Pentucket's goals, both of which were assisted by Jacqui Cloutier, and Annika Ellis made five saves for the shutout. The win was also Pentucket's fifth in a row after hovering around the .500 mark near the season's midpoint.

Hood's hat trick

Jessica Hood scored three goals and Gianna Conte had three assists as the Triton field hockey team rolled over Hamilton-Wenham 7-0. Kelly Sharkey, Jamie Bell, Carisa Boyle and Sarah Burd also scored for the Vikings.

Fourth straight

The Newburyport field hockey team won its fourth straight game, beating rival Triton 2-1 on a soggy day in Newburyport. Meghan Winn scored in the first half off a corner by Ashley Ventura, and Alex Sirek scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the second half. Triton got a goal back by Kelly Sharkey but Newburyport was able to hold on.

Under the lights

The Triton field hockey team got off to a terrific start, beating rival Pentucket 2-0 under the lights on Thursday night. Gianna Conte had a goal and an assist, Caitlyn Roberge scored in the second half and goalie Bridget Sheehan posted a shutout. Pentucket also played well in the loss, and Annika Ellis made four saves for the Sachems.
