Salem, the defending NH Division 1 softball champs, were up-ended in the first round. The No. 9 Blue Devils (10-9) couldn't string together many hits, falling to No. 8 Exeter 8-1. The big inning was the bottom of the fifth, when Exeter cranked two home runs as part of a five-run inning.
