Whittier Wildcats Football '08

Whittier, Chelsea

CHELSEA — Whittier’s defense came up with two key stops in the second quarter and the offense scored early in each half for a 14-0 win over Chelsea.
The Wildcats held the Red Devils to just 48 yards, including no yards through the air as the hosts were 0-for-12 passing.
“Our defense did a great job tonight,” said Whittier head coach Kevin Bradley.
Don Leighton intercepted two passes, including one in the end zone.
Later in the second quarter, Whittier’s Nate Allen and Frank Muraco combined to stop an airborne Chelsea runner at the 2-inch line.
Whittier opened the scoring on the first series of the game when Brian Trickett scored on a 41-yard rush.
In the third quarter, Damian Colman was on the receiving end of a 68-yard touchdown pass from Dillon Ryan.
Trickett finished with 108 yards and Tyler Page added 106.
“They were a great inside-outside combination tonight,” said Bradley. “It was tough for Chelsea to key on one because the other one can take off at anytime. We went against a very stingy defense (only nine points allowed, per game). They were aggressive but we answered.”
Whittier (4-1) hosts Manchester Essex next Saturday at 2 p.m.

HAVERHILL — Whittier learned its lessons well.

Assessing the tapes from a tough loss to Central Mass. power Narragansett the week before, Wildcat head coach Kevin Bradley and his staff didn’t see a lot to panic about. “It was execution, we were just off on a block or two,” he explained. “Simple mistakes.”

Narragansett too strong for Whittier

HAVERHILL — When Narragansett Regional decided to muscle up, there was little Whittier could do. Despite never really getting its offense in gear, the Wildcats managed to convert a turnover into 2-yard Bryan Trickett touchdown run and an 8-0 first quarter lead in their home opener. And the Warriors played into Whittier's strength during the opening half, trying to attack the edges only to find quick defensive ends and backs shutting them down to the tune of a mere seven yards on 16 attempts. Only one well-timed second-quarter fly pattern executed by tight end Alex Travisano and turned into a 76-yard, game-tying touchdown pass spoiled the fun for the 'Cats, and even that was answered a minute after the break on Don Leighton's impressive midfield interception.

Page, Wildcats roll

CHARLESTOWN – It didn’t take long for Whittier Tech’s Tyler Page to deliver a haymaker yesterday. On the game’s second play, he rumbled up the middle for 38 yards, knocking over several Charlestown High defenders and a referee – the latter by accident of course.
