Karelis scores game-winner with six ticks left, Port wins eighth in a row

The Newburyport Clippers (11-2-3) won again yesterday, beating the Hamilton-Wenham Generals (2-11-2) 2-1 at home. With the victory, the Clippers were able to extend their winning streak to eight games. Sharp-shooting Ashley Karelis scored two goals, including the game-winner with six seconds left in the game, and Callie Hefferan notched an assist in the first half. Leah Svoboda and Haley Morris split time in goal and combined for nine Newburyport saves.

Amelia Burke had two goals and Amelia Cohen added another goal and an assist as the Hornets improved to 12-1-2 on the season. Katie Gavin and Jen Bishop also tallied assists, while Vicki Grimes picked up another shutout in net.

Amesbury 5, Hamilton-Wenham 3

Struggling to find some offensive fluidity, Amesbury found its groove against Hamilton-Wenham as four of the five Indian goal-scorers scored their first goal of the season.

Michelle Foley, Keri Salvatore, Gabby Magnifico, and Jojo Lannon all scored their first goals of the season. Maggie Santosuosso also scored and had two assists for the Indians, while Miranda Ballard, Magnifico, and Alyssa Lariviere also had assists.

North Andover 1, Hamilton-Wenham 0

Sophomore Amanda Valentino picked the perfect time for her first varsity goal. The North Andover field hockey forward scored 15 minutes into the game and the unbeaten Knights held on to beat Hamilton-Wenham, 1-0.

Kerryn McManus anchored the air-tight North Andover defense.
