Phillips Andover earns rivalry win over Exeter

ANDOVER — Phillips Andover may not be headed to a postseason bowl like a season ago, but the Blue Blue accomplished what mattered most.

They beat Phillips Exeter.

Phillips closed out its season in style, edging their century-old archrival 13-12 in their annual meeting on Saturday.

Needham's effort for naught in Phillips loss

North Reading's Bobby Needham was a terror with three sacks, but that was one of the few highlights for Phillips Academy in a 35-13 loss to Worcester Academy.

Needham also made a team-high eight tackles, while Jumaane Ford added eight tackles and a sack of his own.

Ford, Anthony lead Phillips

ANDOVER — Jumaane Ford and Max Anthony each surpassed 100 yards rushing and Jack Belluche picked off two passes as Phillips Andover beat Deerfield Saturday 32-24.

Anthony finished with 102 yards rushing and scored on runs of 18 and 2 yards. The host Big Blue led 12-0 after a quarter on an Anthony TD and a 48-yard interception return by Belluche, a junior cornerback from Andover.

Turnovers doom Big Blue

SUFFIELD, Conn. — Suffield Academy took advantage of four Phillips Academy interceptions and rolled to a 34-0 win.

The hosts were led by 6-4, 285-pound lineman Christian Wilkins, who is being wooed by Penn State, BC and a host of other bigtime schools.

Andover's Belluche returns to spark Phillips victory

In his first game back from a wrist injury that had limited him to just punting, Andover's Jack Belluche returned an interception for a touchdown and caught a touchdown from Georgetown's Travis Lane to lead Phillips to its first victory of the season, 20-6 over Cushing Academy.

Return game heroics not enough for Big Blue

ANDOVER —  Kent held off Phillips Andover for a 31-27 win in a back-and-forth battle Saturday afternoon at Phelps Field.

The most effective weapon for the Big Blue was its special teams. Brendan Misterman and Matt Whalen each returned a kickoff for a score. Dewitt Burnham rushed for a TD on the final play of the game and threw for 103 yards. Dane Wagner, a 220-pound linebacker from Niceville, Fla, turned in a terrific defensive effort.

Phillips offense struggles in opening loss

Coming off a magical 2013 season that saw Phillips go unbeaten and won the Etter Bowl, the Big Blue opened 2014 on a sour note, falling to Loomis Chaffee 13-0 on Saturday.

"Our defense played with a lot of courage and played an excellent game," said Big Blue coach Leon Modeste. "But they were on the field the whole game. Our offense struggled and made it tough on our defense."
