Raider girls grab relay win at states, Andover's 4-year streak ends

Maeve Awiszus had never won an individual event at the state swim meet during her first three years at Andover High so her goal throughout her senior season was to win just one.

She did one better yesterday, tying for first in the 500 freestyle (5:05.72) and winning the 100 backstroke (59:14).

Kim, depth give Andover North swim title

Andover scored just a single individual victory, but thanks to its depth across the events was still able to come out on top as a team, winning the North sectional swimming and diving championship with 345.5 points, edging No. 2 rival Chelmsford (336).

300th for Battistini

 

Rick Battistini won his 300th meet as the Haverhill swim coach yesterday, with an exciting 87-81 victory over Central Catholic. Cali Aramian won the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke for the Hillies (8-2) and was on two winning relays, anchoring the 400 free relay with a superb final leg. Battistini got thrown into the pool by his team to celebrate his 300th.

Meghan O'Connor and Genevieve Gigandet went 1-2 in the diving and Jackie Russolillo was a triple winner as Central Catholic nipped Methuen.
