Andover scored just a single individual victory, but thanks to its depth across the events was still able to come out on top as a team, winning the North sectional swimming and diving championship with 345.5 points, edging No. 2 rival Chelmsford (336).

"This was the closest margin of victory we have ever had in a North final or state meet," said Golden Warriors coach Marilyn Fitzgerald. "The expectations going in looking at the seeding sheets had us third or fourth. But we had phanominal drops in times from so many girls. This was one of the best swim meets I have ever been at."

Star Soojin Kim earned the Warriors' lone first place finish of the day by taking the 100 freestyle in 54.25. But Andover picked up a key second from Maeve Awiszus (100 backstroke) and thirds from Alison Murtagh (200 freestyle), Awiszus (100 freestyle), Shannon Fitzsimmons (100 breaststroke) and the 400 freestyle relay, which included Kim, Awiszus, Fitzsimmons and Rachel Landry.

"Soojin was amazing," said Fitzgerald. "And so many girls swam great meets. I didn't even know we were leading until a few girls told me. Every kid did what they were supposed to do and more."

Methuen's Kelly Lennon delivered a big day, winning the 200 IM (2:09.13) and placing second in the 500 freestyle. Central Catholic's Jacqueline Russolillo added a victory in the 50 freestyle (24.68).

Haverhill sophomore Michaela Sliney won the diving by 50 points.

The Rangers won the four-team boys North sectional title.
