TEWKSBURY — Central Catholic dominated Andover High almost from the opening tap. It played swarming defense from start to finish. It got a big performance from its star player. And it advance to the Div. 1 North finals at the Tsongas Arena on Saturday.

Andover conquered inconsistent offense with consistently intense defense, surging to an 18-point lead through three quarters and holding on for a 59-50 victory over Somerville to open Division 1 North play. Devon Caveney had 12 of her 23 points in the crucial third quarter.

Devon Caveney and Jackie Alois each hit four 3-pointers and Olivia Biles sunk three from deep, but Andover fell to Westford Academy 72-61.

 ANDOVER — No one would have given Andover much chance at a fourth straight state championship after the huge graduation losses it suffered. But the way the Golden Warriors do the little things needed to be successful, no one should be surprised if they make a strong playoff run.

Entering the final quarter with just a single basket, Jessica Witten's eight points led a 17-2 Andover run to finish the game as the Golden Warriors rallied past Lowell 47-37.

ANDOVER — In the unfamiliar position of underdogs of late, three-time defending Division 1 state champion Andover looked poised early on to make it two major upsets in a row.

But despite a fast start thanks to their trademark intense press defense, the Golden Warriors couldn’t quite duplicate their Friday shocker over archrival Central Catholic, falling to Billerica 58-51 last night.

After missing four minutes of the second half due to foul trouble, senior Devon Caveney came back with a vengeance.

After Central Catholic wrapped a determined comeback to tie the score, Andover scored the game's final 12 points to take home a 49-37 victory.

Devon Caveney sunk three of her six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Andover finished the game on a 16-2 run to defeat Methuen 54-43. Caveney finished with 24 points, Abby Katz added 12 rebounds and Olivia Biles knocked down four 3-pointers for the winners.

Jackie Alois scored a team-high 13 points, grabbed eight steals and added four assists as Andover rolled over former rival Lowell 50-29.

Devon Caveney drilled seven 3-pointers in a 23-point game to power Andover to a 64-44 win over Salem in the Greater Lawrence Girls Basketball Christmas Tourney third-place game.

Andover got out to a 21-10 lead after one and started a new win streak after Central Catholic snapped its 42-game win streak on Saturday. Jessica Witten and Colleen Caveney added eight points each. Salem's Emily Hickey starred with 18 points and four treys.
